QUANTITY SURVEYOR
Office HQ - located at 15 1/2 miles, Kuching Outer Ring Rd, 94200 Kota Samarahan, Sarawak
A Quantity Surveyor (QS) in an engineering company is responsible for managing the contractual,
financial, and commercial aspects of engineering projects, with a primary focus on steel fabrication,
installation and construction. The QS ensures that projects are delivered within budget, on time,
and in compliance with quality and safety standards. This role involves site visits to assess
project sites and measurements, monitor progress, verify completed works, measure quantities,
and coordinate with site team.
Job Roles:
Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities (BOQ), and tender documentation
Analyse project drawings and technical documents to prepare accurate pricing
Evaluate and negotiate contracts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
Conduct regular site visits to: i) Measure completed work for payment processing ii) Verify onsite progress and materials used iii) Assess variations and changes in scope
Monitor ongoing project costs and compare with budget estimates
Manage change orders, variations, and claims throughout the project lifecycle
Prepare interim valuations, final accounts, and payment applications
Conduct cost risk analysis and value engineering
Assist in procurement and selection of contractors and suppliers
Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and health & safety requirements
Collaborate with project teams to track progress and provide cost control advice
Assessment of contractor’s claim
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (required)
Experience in quantity surveying or cost control, preferably in an engineering environment
Strong numerical and analytical skills
In-depth understanding of construction contracts
Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Excel
Good negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Must be willing to travel to project sites as needed
